Radio Stations

Radio stations became popular in 1920. The first station was said to be KDKA. In the next ten years 60 percent of America would purchase a radio. Families were brought together because they would gather around the radio at night and listen to music, sporting events, lectures, stories, market updates, weather reports, and political commentaries. The first broadcasts however were talk shows which eventually lead up to music stations which started playing opera in the beginning. Many of the stations started to have to compete because the stations were beginning to lap over. This made the people request more organized efforts. The Federal Radio Commission was formed in 1926, they assigned certain time slots for each station and monitored what was being broad casted. The first radio was called a crystal radio. It was so simple that many people created their own instead of buying them.
